100 words

My ‘rocking chair’ design was inspired by the straight elegant lines of 1940s and 1950s European designers such as Mies Van Der Rohe and Le Corbusier. I feel that their use of thin stainless steel frames (such as Le Corbusier ’s chaise lounge and Van Der Rohe’s Barcelona/MR.90 chair) has become a timeless convention within modern design. While trying to encorporate the techniques used by the European masters I aimed to look at the relationship between a bed and a chair. I began with a deep rocking chair, conventionally sitting on the floor. However this turned into an adjustable day bed that would be positioned on a wall, suspended over something.
